Another wonderful moment at the end of Mass last Sunday

One other wonderful moment I just remembered from the end of mass on Sunday ( see this post for the wonderful choir practice we had Getting ready for our Christmas Concert). We were busy putting away the music and the other equipment and I overheard Terry quoting this wonderful poem to Scott. He know the whole thing from start to finish and I remember it as one I had to learn in school:

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.


I love the imagery that this poem brings to mind. I know the feeling of stopping to listen to the snow falling. When I lived in Switzerland the night of the first snow fall for me was very exciting. I put on my big boots and a big coat and went for a walk through the very quiet streets. Nobody was around as I walked down by the lake, for a time I sat on a bench and just listened to "the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake". It was obvious from the footprints in the snow that I was the only one out walking at the late hour of 11pm. It was so magical and watching snow fall will always bring back this memory to me.

Thanks Terry for reminding me of this wonderful few moments I had over 12 years ago. A reminder to me to stop and treasure these moments instead of thinking that I have "miles to go before I sleep". In the busy lives that we lead, this acknowledgment is a gift as something that can only be appreciated for a few moment before moving on and resuming one's life. My hope for you Terry is that you will have many of these moments in the years to come.
